I’ve been readings some of the comments about Julia and I have to say I find them quite disturbing. While she is not my cup of tea politically, as a woman I take umbrage with some of the things that have been said about her.
People don’t like her clothes or her hair or some other ridiculous thing. Do they say that about any of the men politicians? Do they comment on what Wayne Swan is wearing, or if his bum looks big in that suit, or how his hair is styled? It really is sexual discrimination.
If they want to bag her politics that is acceptable, but to comment on her personal grooming is ludicrous. Journalists and the public ought to concentrate on the issues at hand and we have plenty of real issues that need discussing e.g. I read in the Courier Mail today that 72% of the population are against the Carbon Tax. Then there is the Peter Slipper affair and Craig Thompson and a myriad of other important issues.
To have our first woman Prime Minister ( even if you disagree with her politics) ,is a great step for equality. It’s an example for the younger generation of women to enable them to realize that the sky is the limit. If you have the willpower and knowledge you can achieve anything you desire. (not necessarily politics)

I do agree with you that the media and the public worry a lot about the PM’s choice of clothes and also about her figure, which they never do about male politicians. Yes, it is wonderful that we finally got a female PM, however, what a disappointment she has been. In fact, it is rather embarrassing for women in general, that so many people dislike her and also her policies. You really have to go back to the Keating or Whitlam era, to find anything that would compare to this. Very disappointing.
I did enjoy your article about PM, as it showed both sides of the reason, that the media are very biased towards women in general and that women still have a long way to go for equality. Sad, but true.
I agree with you Judy, This sexual discrimination should be eliminated from the society as it sows seeds of conservative thoughts which takes plenty of time to be eradicated from every individual’s head. I have no idea why women are criticized around the globe and a drunk man who is sitting in the Parliament abusing the Law and Order is never the target of these “CRITICIZERS”. What I really can’t get through is why can’t men see eye to eye with women or do they fear the WOMEN POWER to invade the world? This is a MYSTERY! A hysterical one! =D
Love,
Naima.
Wilpower and knowledge?? WTF!!! She stabbed her leader in the back, she lied and continues to the Australian people. She has proven that she is prepared to do ANYTHING to remain in power. She is the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had and in fact by her actions she has cheapened to office of Prime Minister. To say that this is a great example to the younger generation is absolutely ludicrous. She has set back the womens “movement” (for want of a better word), back years. Please get a grip on reality this woman is hopeless
Lets not talk about this women specifically! But we are talking about women in general and gender discrimination, read my comment as well(mentioned above)

Check my blog as well, may be ya find it interesting
Love,
Naima.
IMO she has set back the cause of women in politics on the very ground that women claim to have a handle on. Ethics and honesty. In years to come when individual women are held up as flagbearers for the gender i doubt julia will be one of them.
I agree
I agree that woman are put under the microscope moreso than their male counterparts. this is not fair, but still it goes on. I can’t comment on the political aspect as I have not been following the Australian government (sorry). I am always amazed at the jam these womwn hae to get that far in the politiccl realm, as it must be tough. I have held a few jobs that are male dominant to this day, and I had to learn to let a lot of things roll of my back. I can only imagine what she had to and must still go through being in the public eye. It should be about the job performed, not the physical aspect. OK I have finished babbling!
I couldn’t agree more Liz.Thanks for reading my blog. cheers Judy
