A Quick Question

WordPress dashboard interface

Has anyone else had the people they follow dropped from their list? I accidentally clicked on followers today and noticed that blogs I have been following for ages had ‘follow’ beside them not ‘following’. I was quite shocked as I love reading my regular bloggers.

Is it a glitch in WordPress ?

I would be interested to hear if it’s happened to anyone else.

thanks Judy :)

She’s only 5

Mail1

A 5-year-old Russian girl sings the Beatles’ song “Oh Darling”.

Unbelievable voice for a 5-year-old. Not just the voice, but the presentation, too. Her stage presence is amazing she is so confident.

Even More Awards

Once again a heartfelt THANK YOU to Dor from Virginia’s Views, countryliving4beginners.wordpress.com for The Addictive Blog Award

and to Gail, from the jottersjoint.wordpress.com for The Booker Award.

I really appreciate all the support that my lovely bloggers give me. I love reading all their blogs and I look forward to reading the comments they post on my blog.  It’s like Christmas every day when you open your emails and see all the bloggers emails sitting there.  One thing I hate (or is hate too hard a word, maybe dislike?) is to pick out only 7 or 10, or 15, or whatever the awards rules require, of my favorite bloggers. All the bloggers I follow are my favorites or else I wouldn’t be following them. I think we are so lucky to have built up a great group of people. We are privileged enough to be able to share such a feeling of comradeship, empathy, and joy amongst us. It’s such a great feeling. We are from so many different countries, backgrounds, ideals etc yet we are able to come together and enjoy each other’s stories, art, photography, and see different points of views. It enables up to open our eyes and put ourselves in someone else’s shoes. So thank you my lovely bloggers, for your goodwill, your friendship, and your very interesting blogs. I appreciate you all so much.  :)

Please check out my list of lovely bloggers you will not be disappointed. They are all wonderful in their own way.

Another Use for an Ipad

English: An image of an iPad 2.

I was visiting my son and daughter-in-law last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper. ”This is the 21st century, old man,” he said. “We don’t waste money on newspapers. Here, you can borrow my IPad.”

Well I can tell you, that bloody fly never knew what hit it…

Doubly Blessed

I would like to thank Dor from http://countryliving4beginners.wordpress.com/ for nominating me for these two Awards. I was so excited to receive them. It really gives you a boost to your day to think that other people appreciate what you do.  Please visit Dor’s blog it is well worth the read. I look forward to her posts. If you look at My Lovely Community you will see the people I follow and can I suggest that you have a browse through them as they are all wonderful bloggers and well worth a look. Please support them.

I was reading some other posts and one caught my eye about letters.  Historians have always used letters to fill out the lives and times of famous people and now that people don’t seem to write letters much anymore, it will be hard for them in the future. However, I think that is where blogging comes in. All the little things we write will give the future historians a wonderful eye view of what our society thought and did. Some blogs are really personal like journals, and some have the most beautiful photographs, then there are the political comments, writing tips, computer tips, gardening, health, fitness, cooking, religion, spirituality, science, animals, and some delve into the minutiae of daily life. Whatever our blogs say or do they are important, not only to us but to our readers and maybe our future readers. So I say, GO BLOGGERS GO! You are doing a public service.

World War II Golf

Aint Golf Grand?

You have to hand it to the Brits when it comes to golf. And you thought you were a tough weather golfer. This notice posted in war-torn Britain in 1940 for golfers with stiff upper lips. You have to admit — these guys really had guts! German aircraft from Norway would fly on missions to northern England because of the icy weather conditions, the barrels of their guns had a small dab of wax to protectthem. As they crossed the coast, they would clear their guns by firing a few rounds at the golf courses. Golfers were urged to take cover.

No wonder Hilter couldn’t defeat the British.

Feeling Grumpy and Frustrated

Ok! so today I am reading all the posts of the blogs I subscribe to on the Reader. I go through them every day and click on LIKE for the ones that I enjoy. I have been noticing the last few days that when I go back into the Reader all my likes are gone. So I started going on the individual blogs and saw that none of my likes have shown up. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this something new with WordPress? I was annoyed because I try to encourage other bloggers, and now it looks like all my hard work has gone to waste GRRR!

I think the LIKES are an important part of blogging. They show that we appreciate the time and effort our fellow bloggers have put into their posts. It also helps to create a community feel. I enjoy going through my blog to see who has liked my posts, and I am sure that other bloggers feel the same. It makes you feel accepted and vindicated. So my friends if you have been missing my LIKES, never fear I have been doing them. I am not sure if this is a temporary problem with WordPress or they have changed something. Anyhow, whatever it is I hope they take note and fix it soon.

The Inspiring Bloggers Award

The Inspiring Blog Award

Thanks so much to Gail from http://www.thejottersjoint.wordpress.com (well worth a visit) for nominating me for this award. The community of bloggers is one that we should all be very proud of,  and I am so glad to be accepted in this community. It means such a lot to me. Thank you to all my fellow bloggers out there who have supported me.

Accepting the award calls for:

  1. Listing 7 things about myself
  2. Nominating 7 blogs/bloggers who inspire me

My nominees for this award are:

http://countryliving4beginners.wordpress.com/

http://fostrickson.wordpress.com/

http://zendictive.wordpress.com/

http://cheerfulegg.com/

http://ladyromp.com/

http://alexandrasmithwriter.wordpress.com/

Please visit their blogs and show your support as they are well  worth the read.

7 Things About Me

1. I love a cup of tea (my mother was English) so that sorta explains it I guess. Whenever there was a family crisis we always put the kettle on. Some people take alcohol we always drank tea.

2. I love animals of any sort especially my darling dogs. I just cannot imagine a world without them. What would it be like to never wake up to birdsong or have our loving pets around us?

3. Books are my passion, I think The Spouse is worried we will have to move into a bigger house so I can store them all. (only kidding)

4. Having a nice garden is important to me. I love to look at the flowers and the trees and all the creatures that come to visit. (except the rats who eat my passionfruit)

5. My family and friends are very important to me. Where would we be without family? Friends are family we pick for ourselves.

6. I like travelling around in our caravan and seeing the different places with The Spouse.

7. I love my country and the place where I live. I am so grateful for all the good things in my life.

I am so glad we only have to write 7 things about ourselves. I was running out of ideas.

5 Story Mistakes Even Good Writers Make

These helpful hints were taken from Writers Digest, June 12th  edition.

1) Overdoing symbolism/themes

2) Trying too hard to impress

3) Failing to anticipate the reader’s response.

4) Using a hook as a gimmick

5) Leave readers hanging.

If you would like to read the full article this is the link http://www.writersdigest.com/whats-new/5-story-mistakes-even-good-writers-make?et_mid=561665&rid=3174906

It is good to be reminded at times of how easy it is to fall into these traps in our writing. So much to learn so little time. Big Sigh!!

Quote for the day: ” The difference between try and triumph is just a little umph! “

Happy writing.

Writers Tips from PC and Kristin Cast

Kalona and Zoey Redbird

Kalona and Zoey Redbird (Photo credit: jαγ △)

These writers are a mother and daughter team and they write The House of Night Series about a vampire school where everything is reversed. They go to school at night ( cause they are vampires remember?) They have wonderful adventures and if you like vampires then you will enjoy these books.

These writing tips are great:

Remember that being an author is a job. That means you need to research the career. Read writers’ resource books and “how to” books written by authors you admire. Join writers’ groups – take creative writing classes. Educate yourself about the basics of publishing. Then write and write and write – and rewrite and rewrite and rewrite. Once you have a completed manuscript, polished to the best of your ability, then you should be ready to begin submitting to editors and agents (and you should know how to do this through your research!).
