Book Review: The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared

The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.

The title is nearly a story in itself. The book  however is a must read. It’s not laugh out loud funny ( in my opinion ) but I was sniggering to myself most of the way through. It’s crazy and funny.  No wonder it’s an international best seller. You have to keep reading to find out all of Allen Karlsson ‘s adventures. The story starts with Allen waiting in his room, in the old people’s home,  for his 100th birthday party to begin. It’s a big deal with the local mayor attending etc. Allan decides he doesn’t want to go to his own birthday party and climbs out the window. He decides to do a runner or in his case a fast shuffle  in his slippers. Then his adventures start and what adventures they are. The book flashes backwards and forwards through his life. The adventures he had, and the famous people he met.  He meets most of the world’s famous people during his 100 years. The blend of history and politics  is told in such a charming way. The writing flows smoothly, and it’s fast moving. I really enjoyed his style of writing, because the story is told simply but well. A great read with a feel good atmosphere, and endearing charm.
